Students help EC to enroll 18 plus in electoral rolls.

Nellore: Authorities have been taking the assistance of the active students of all the colleges in the district to enroll students who will complete 18 years of age by January 1, 2014 in the electoral list.

College principals have identified some active students in their colleges to motivate students and they have been designated as campus ambassadors.

The students can enroll their names either at the place they are studying or at their home town. Application forms have been supplied to the colleges for the benefit of students and they can submit same in the college.

Election Commission has appointed electoral registration officers for all the 10 Assembly segments and the job of enrolling all the eligible students has been entrusted to them.

While RDOs will act as EROs in divisional headquarters such as Nellore, Kavali, Atmakur, Gudur and Nayudupeta, the responsibility of Kovur, Nellore city, Surveypalli, Venkatagiri and Udayagiri has been delegated to ZP CEO, special collector, Telugu Ganga project, deputy collector (vigilance) civil supplies, DRDA PD and DWMA PD.

According to Rambhoopal Reddy, superintendent, collectorate, there are 20,63,393 voters in the district when electoral rolls published on November 18, 2013. They include 10,19,654 men and 10,43,626 women and 113 others (Hizras).

As many as 80,000 people applied for enrolment after November 18 and the scrutiny of the applications are in progress. The eligible among them will be included in the voters list being published on January 16, 2014.

December 17 has been set as last date for inclusion in the voters scheduled to be published in January and wide publicity has been given to ensure enrolment of all eligible voters. Drop boxes have been placed in the offices of EROs and even in some shopping malls for the benefit of public.

The scrutiny of the applications received till Tuesday (December 17) will be completed by December 31. Notwithstanding to the last date, the enrolment will continue till the announcement of elections and those submitting their applications 10 days before the last date for nominations will only be included in the voters list, Reddy said.
