Thrissur: The father of a robber has set an example by doing penance for his son’s crime.
The beneficiary of the gesture is the family of Radhakrishnan, Krishnakripa House in Thrippallur here. They had the surprise of their life on Thursday when they received back their 272 gram of gold jewellery, which had been stolen a few days ago, along with a note of apology written by the thief’s father.
According to police, the booty was found kept in the car porch of Radhakrishnan’s house. The letter said that the remaining gold chain of 48 grams stolen from the house on December 15 would be returned within two days.
“The letter mentioned that his son had stolen the jewellery to perform a bypass surgery for him. But he never wanted to rob others’ pleasure to save his life and hoped the owner will accept the jewellery and forgive his son,’’ said K.K. Ibrahim, DySP, Kunnamkulam.
The burglary took place when Radhakrishnan and his family had gone to attend the Thrikkarthika Vilakku celebrations at a temple nearby on Sunday evening. On their return, they found the cupboard on the ground floor ransacked.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the robber had gained entry into the house by breaking open the door of the staircase. According to police, he appeared to have kept a watch at the house and entered it after ensuring that all the family members had left for the festival.
