Firm producing oil from carcass sealed

Following complaints, the RGIA police raided a firm in Gagan Pahad.

Hyderabad: Following complaints, the RGIA police raided a firm in Gagan Pahad in Rajender Nagar where oil was being allegedly extracted from animal carcasses and was being supplied to hotels.

Locals alleged that the extracted oil is being used in food and the carcass residue is being used in hotels to make Irani tea. Inspector D. Durga Prasad said, “We raided a firm and found the bones of animals being heated to extract oil. The owner is absconding.  The firm was sealed. However, no case was booked as the issue has been handed over to the GHMC.”

Gowlipur Corporator Ale Jeethendra, who submitted a letter to the GHMC commissioner said, “This is not something new. It has been happening since some time. This firm has been burning the bones and skin of animals to extract fat, and has been supplying it to hotels.

We asked the GHMC to order an inquiry and to find out hotels purchasing this oil, and to close down the establishments.” When contacted the GHMC additional commissioner for health and sanitation, L. Vandhan Kumar said, "the unit has been shut down. The GHMC has one designated vehicle in every circle to transport dead animals. Any eatery using such oils will be taken to task. Their trade license will be cancelled and the unit will be seized.
