Easy win for Kashyap
New Delhi: Qualifier Shriyanshi Pardeshi of Air India created a flutter, ousting former national champion and eighth seed Trupti Murgunde on the opening day of the 78th ATS senior national badminton championship at the Siri Fort Sports Complex here on Friday . Shriyanshi won 21-17, 21-18 in the women's singles second round.
The 17-year-old's superior net play helped her get past Trupti, and she will now face M. Aruna of Pondicherry .
“It is undoubtedly one of my biggest victories so far. I will try my best to as far as possible in this competition from here on,“ said Shriyanshi.
SINDHU BREEZES PAST JAISY In other matches, pretournament favourites P.V. Sindhu and defending men's singles champion P. Kashyap had easy third round outings.
World championship bronze medallist Sindhu needed just 12 minutes to pack off Jaisy Bridgette 21-3, 21-15, while Kashyap thrashed his rival, Tejan Fallary, 21-4, 21-7 in just 14 minutes.
Also advancing to the next round were women's singles third seed Arundhati Pantawane, fifth seed P.C. Thulasi and men's third seed Ajay Jayaram, fourth seed Anand Pawar and fifth seed K. Srikanth.
