Mumbai: After five years, movie star Amitabh Bachchan and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray shared the dais for the welfare of cine artistes here on Monday.

They were given a rousing welcome amid beating of drums and cymbals at the Shanmukhananda Hall on the occasion of the Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Sena's (MNCS) seventh anniversary function, to which Bachchan was invited as chief guest.

MNS's movie industry wing also handed over life insurance policies to ten veteran artistes. The relationship between Raj Thackeray and Amitabh Bachchan had soured after the actor faced flak from Raj for acting in Bhojpuri movies and becoming the ambassador of Uttar Pradesh.

Their relationship had deteriorated further after Bachchan's wife and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan stirred a controversy saying that she was from Uttar Pradesh and that people in Maharashtra should excuse her for speaking in Hindi, which had led the actor to tender an unconditional apology on behalf of his wife.
