Chennai: The Chennai city police arrested the editor of Captain TV's news department around midnight on Saturday, based on a harassment complaint lodged by a former woman sub-editor of the channel.

According to the police, the woman, in her complaint, had stated that editor Dinesh Kumar, 27, had used sexually explicit language directed at her when she was working as his subordinate. Based on her complaint, the Maduravoyal police, led by inspector Anand Babu, arrested the editor in Vanagaram.

A case under section 4 (1) of woman harassment Act was filed against him and he was remanded in judicial custody, the police said.

However, an official release from Captain TV on this issue denied the harassment charges and said the woman's complaint was frivolous. According to an employee there, the woman had joined work only on October 2 and quit by Nov. 27.

Some people also attribute the police's hasty action to a previous issue, where the channel staff gheraoed the Maduravoyal police station demanding action against a van driver who attacked their staff.
