Major parties gear up for poll campaign
Though the schedule for general elections is yet to announced.
Rajahmundry: Though the schedule for general elections is yet to announced, election fever is said to be almost gripping the major political parties in the form of launching of their campaign in both the Godavari districts much before the date.
While the Telugu Desam and the YSR Congress are leading in this aspect and the BJP follows, the ruling Congress seems to be lagging behind. A notable feature in this aspect is that the TD has taken up the door-to-door campaign under the programme Gadapa Gadapaku (house to house). The YSRC has gone a step further by advocating for unified AP besides canvassing for the party. Both these parties have been observing mass contact programme to know the people’s problems.
On the other hand, the BJP with the new found vigour after the success in four states, is going to take up the programme polling booth-wise. The YSRC state women’s wing president Kolli Nirmala Kumari observed that they have been receiving tremendous response from public and exuded confidence of coming to power in the state with absolute majority. The people are better judges and know pretty well that the YSRC could fulfil their aspirations, she said.
In West Godavari, the party leaders Maddala Rajesh Kumar, Taneti Vanita, Alla Kalikrishana Srinvias alias Nani, have been continuing the programme in the district. The TD on its part has taken up campaign in East Godavari with party president N. China Rajappa and in West, the district unit president Thota Sitaramalakshmi is actively campaigning.
According to BJP East Godavari unit president Vetukuri Suryanarayana Raju, they are going to start booth campaign, a mass contact programme, from January 2 to 11 in all the districts at the stale level including East Godavari.
Congress district unit president Dommeti Venkateswarulu admitted that the Samaikyandhra stir have caused delay in taking up the campaign.
