Chennai: An employee with the public telecom service provider BSNL went on a rampage, damaging the cars of two senior officials parked in the office at Kilpauk on Tuesday.

The employee Venkatesh (35), an office assistant, was upset as his salary was delayed over disciplinary issues, police sources said.

At around 9 am, Venkatesh arrived at the Chief General Manager’s office on Purasawalkam High Road and stormed in, pushing the security guard aside. He broke a glass door and CCTV camera near the entrance, a police officer said. Thereafter, he pelted stones at the officials’ cars, damaging them.

On information, police reached the spot and took custody of Venkatesh. In the enquiry, Venkatesh told police that he was upset over the company delaying his salary.

“However, officials said that Venkatesh was suspended several times for negligence of duty and also has a police case pending against him; they attributed this reason for delay in paying his salary,” said a police officer. Based on a complaint by BSNL officials, he was booked and remanded to judicial custody.
