Chennai: Law student A. Nandhini,  who made news for going on a fast in Madurai demanding total prohibition in the state some months ago, was on Tuesday night prevented from entering Chennai city by the police.

Nandhini, who was on a two-wheeler with her father, Anandan, was stopped near Chromepet on GST Road and prevented  from  entering Chennai as  she was reportedly planning to sit on a fast in the city demanding total prohibition.

The police first stopped the father and daughter, who had left Madurai Monday morning, at Tiruchy and  tried to persuade them not to go ahead with her fast in Chennai, but she remained adamant.
The police had no choice but to allow them to proceed.

But when the duo  reached Chromepet late Tuesday evening  they were spotted by a  police team and  taken to the Chromepet General Hospital for ‘treatment’.

“They were very tired so we took them to hospital. The two left Wednesday morning saying they were returning to Madurai and  were spotted in Perundurai, Erode in the evening,” the police said.

Nandhini, who is coordinator of a movement called ‘Law students striving for liquor-free Tamil Nadu,’  has been demanding that the Supreme Court direct the state to close down all Tasmac-run liquor shops, as they were committing a crime under Section 328 IPC and also violating Article 21 of the Constitution.
