Panel to probe Mariyam case
Medical negligence case to be probed after Mariyam had suffered brain hemorrhage after surgery.
Bangalore: Following the alleged medical negligence in the case of three year old Mariyam Kousar at Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopedics, Health Minister, UT Khadar has entrusted a team of doctors to inquire about the case.
He said “I have spoken to Health Commissioner as well as the Health Secretary about the case. The doctors have already begun with the probe and we hope to get the report in another 10 days time.”
Three year old Mariyam Kousar, who had sustained a minor fracture of her left hand while playing outside their relative’s house at Dodballapur was brought to Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopedics (SGITO) on December 13.
After three days of hospitalization she underwent a surgery on December 16, following which she is suffering from severe brain hemorrhage. Mariyam who was shifted to Malati Manipal Hospital is undergoing treatment and is with ventilator support at the hospital for the past one week.
Mariyam had undergone a CT scan on Thursday and the report revealed that the swelling of her brain has spread. Her aunt Reshma said “She was to undergo a surgery, but after the CT scan report the doctors have asked us to wait till Monday. However activity wise she is doing good. She is making hand movement if anyone is calling her name.”
We have filed an FIR at Tilak Nagar Nagar police station on Thursday. Meanwhile, when Deccan Chronicle contacted Tilak Nagar Nagar police station Inspector he said “The father and aunt of Mariyam has filed an FIR which is a general one. We have sent a requisition to Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopedics seeking the details about the treating doctor and have also informed the Karnataka Medical Council. Once we get the evidential details we will proceed with the case.”
