Kochi: The Special Investigation Team probing the hurling of bombs at an apartment near the Deshabhimani Junction, left for Madurai in Tamil Nadu on Saturday to question the main accused in the case, Sam, who surrendered before the magistrate there recently.

A team led by Ernakulam North sub inspector Mohammed Nizar is expected to seek the magistrate’s permission  to quiz him in jail about the man who accompanied him in throwing bombs at the Revathy Court Apartment on Kollamparambil Road near Deshabhimani.

The police is however unlikely to seek Sam’s custody as it still does not have a production warrant from the Ernakulam court for him.

It will be issued the warrant only if it is able to prove that Sam was one of the two  involved in the bombing incident.

“We will question him and get details about his involvement. Hopefully he will also guide us to his partner who is absconding,” said a senior police official.

Sam, a native of North Paravur, is believed to be a key aide of Maradu Aneesh, a notorious gangster. The bombing followed a clash between Aneesh’s gang  and thwt of Bhai Nazeer, another notorious gangster of the area.

Nazeer’s aides were in the apartment when Sam and his friend allegedly hurled bombs at it, but were not injured.

Sam surrendered before the Madurai magistrate after the Tamil Nadu police issued a look-out notice for him in a spirit smuggling case.

He has reportedly been helping Aneesh smuggle spirit into Kerala from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for a  few years.
