Plan to open boat jetty at Kakkanad Info Park
The administration is hoping that techies working at the Info Park will use the service.
Kochi: With the Kakkanad-Vyttila boat service failing to attract enough passengers, the district administration is planning to open a boat jetty at Kakkanad Info Park.
The administration is hoping that techies working at the Info Park will use the service.
"We are planning to open a jetty at Infopark after considering the shortcomings of the newly introduced Kakkanad-Vyttila boat service," said Collector P A Shiekh Pareeth. He claimed that the service will begin by January 2014.
The Kakkanad-Vyttila service was launched on November 20 this year. Since there is no connectivity to Kakkanad town passengers were unable to use the service.
According to the collector many people are also reluctant to use waterborne transport. "We need to create more awareness," the collector said.
There is no bus service from the jetty to Kakkanad and commuters have to travel by auto rickshaws which are much more expensive than a bus.
With the launch of the ferry service, travel time between Vyttila and Kakkanad has been reduced to 20 minutes.
