Probe against Bevco outlet
Bevco’s outlet was under scanner after complaints were received about it selling liquor to minors.
Alappuzha: The Alappuzha excise has registered a case against the manager and the salesman of the Mullackal outlet of Kerala State Beverages Corporation Limited (Bevco) for selling liquor to a minor on Thursday.
The excise team had arrested shop manager Suresh and salesman Jayapalan of the outlet SL 4008 and they were released on bail later.
According to excise Sub-Inspector V.P. Anoop, a case against them was charged under section 15 of Kerala Abkari Act, which says liquor can be sold only to those who have completed 21 years of age.
The Bevco’s outlet was under the police scanner after many complaints had been received about it selling liquor to minors.
“We will intensify our checking in the coming days,’’ said the official.
The federation of all Kerala liquor business employees criticised the excise action and accused the excise team of fabricating the case against the employees.
The case was registered because the excise people were not served liquor from the outlet during their Christmas bash, it alleged.
“The federation will oppose the action,” it added.
