Singer Naresh Iyer talks about his association with music composer Gopi Sunder
It was Suchi — singer Suchitra from Chennai, who suggested my name to Gopi Sunder. She had gone to sing a version of a song in Anwar for him. She suggested my name when he asked her to suggest a male singer. He then called me to sing the song Kanninima Neele. I found him to be a very cool and friendly person. He is a very good composer, totally aligned with the current music scene. His musical arrangement has got lots of fusions, lots of different styles, and in sync with the present generation. He is also very innovative, and his tunes are refreshing and nice.
The next time I recorded a song for him was for Usthad Hotel, the song Mel Mel Mel. He was again very relaxed and interactive. He is open to suggestions. The only trouble I had was in getting all the Malayalam words correct. The Anwar song begins with a line with a continuous flow of words and the corrections he would tell me were so subtle, you wouldn’t know the difference unless you are a Malayali. I have had these two opportunities to interact with him, and both times I felt he was one of the nicest persons to work with. He is also technologically sound. I wish to work with him in the future again and also wish him the very best.
