Changing the face of Kannada cinema through his crowd-funded movie Lucia, was life-altering for Pawan Kumar. His innovative concept of generating curiosity amongst the audiences and in turn generating revenue for his project has had an impact on several young film makers. He says, “I never expected this and it is quite overwhelming, but now I feel pressurised with the rising expectations.”
The Year That Was
‘Innovation’ has been his core for the year 2013, as his idea of using social platforms to spur the audience has proved to be successful. Pawan says that the year 2013 has been “life-altering” and has opened a world of opportunities. He adds, “I am glad to be able to inspire the next generation film makers through my work.”
The Year ahead
2014 will see Pawan Kumar, remaking Lucia in three languages Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. He adds, “I am looking forward to remaking the Lucia magic and hope to take Kannada cinema forward.”
His life’s emblem
A Pill — It awakened the director in him. His movie Lucia was based on inventing a pill for insomnia.
The High
The year 2013 saw his movie become one of the biggest surprise hits and made a collection of Rs 3 crore. The movie also won the best film award in the audience choice category during the London Film Festival.
The low
The low point for him he says is now. “The journey has come to an end. I actually wake up feeling low because I have nothing to do regarding Lucia.”
