Congress to use social media for publicity

Cong to rely on the internet as a means of communication for disseminating party’s messages.

Karimnagar: As social media has become an integral part for internet users, elected representatives of the Congress have decided to rely on the internet-based means of communication for disseminating the party’s messages over welfare schemes and carrying out e-campaigns during Assembly polls in 2014.

Recently, Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar convened a meeting with the party workers of Karimnagar Parliament division as to what could be conveyed through the social media.

“We took part in the meeting held at the party’s office on December 29 over application the social media in campaigning for the party’s success2014 general polls,” shared a senior leader of the party with this newspaper.

Citing a cartoon against Rahul Gandhi which went viral on a prominent social networking site, Ponnam Prabhakar explained how the Congress’s counterparts were exploring the social media to penetrate into public, added the leader.

“We will not indulge in circulating such ‘aggressive’ cartoons or visuals, but the welfare schemes and efforts of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi in implementing MNREGA and approving Lokpal Bill, Land Acquisition Bill, Right for Food, Right to Information and others, said a senior leader who was present in the meeting.

Currently, a facebook page under the name of District Congress Committee of Karimnagar is being run for updating the party’s works on activities of the Congress.

Additionally, pages would be created for each mandal in order to keep both followers of the party and general public engaged.
