I thought they would kill me: ATM guard
The brave security guard was convinced that the robbers had plans to kill him!
Bangalore: The brave security guard, who foiled a robbery attempt at an SBI ATM kiosk in the city, was convinced that the robbers’ menacing comment that they would ‘gift’ him something “he will never forget” was a veiled threat they would kill him!
Revealing the events that unfolded early Sunday when he broke his bonds and chased after and attacked one of the ATM thieves with a machete, Saaduddin, the city's newest hero, said, “I had gone for duty at 10 pm on Saturday. It was very cold and I was lying on the floor inside the kiosk. Late at night, I heard a noise and saw a tall guy enter the ATM kiosk, followed by a short man. Before I could get up, the latter hit me on my head with a helmet,” Saaduddin told DC.
“I was in shock and became unconscious. When I regained my senses, I found that my hands and legs were tied. The tall guy was trying to break open the ATM machine with a hammer while the short man was walking in and out. After a while, the shorter man brought a boulder and tried to hit me. I begged him not to hurt me. He asked for some details about the machine but I said I didn’t know anything. He said, “I will leave you now. But before we leave this place, we will gift you something that you will never forget. I thought that was my last day as they would kill me. All I was just thinking about at that time was how to save myself,” Saaduddin narrated.
“A few minutes later, the short man went out and was not to be seen after that. Within 2-3 minutes, I saw two people near the ATM, and seeing a walkie-talkie in their hand I realised they were policemen. Then I gathered up my courage and decided to attack the tall guy who was trying to break open the machine.
“I managed to untie myself, as they had not properly tied my hands with the cloth. Luckily, one of the policeman knocked on the door and the tall guy ran out. The police tried to grab him as I picked up the machete that was kept on the table and hit him on his head. He ran for some distance before they caught him,” he said.
