Bangalore: The High Court has rejected the bail petition of a Mandya-based doctor facing charges of killing his wife.

The incident happened in May 2013 and had created a sensation in Mandya.

The accused Dr Raghavendra was an assistant professor at Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences and his wife Tejaswini, was an engineering graduate, who was found dead at the residence of her in-laws at Kallahalli in Mandya district.

The police had registered a case against Dr Raghavendra for the offences punishable under Sections 143, 304(B), 302 r/w 149 IPC, and have completed the investigation and filed the charge sheet.

The deceased was found hanging with external injuries on her body. The District and Sessions Court had rejected bail to the accused husband, who later approached the high court.

The post mortem report had specifically stated that “We are of the opinion that death was due to asphyxia as a result of suspension by a ligature around the neck and the suspension in unconsciousness cannot be ruled out as there accompanied the head injury.”

While rejecting the bail the high court stated, “This is not a fit case for grant of bail in the facts and circumstances of this case.”

However, the court has allowed the petitioner to renew the petition after the charges are framed.
