Cash-strapped Palike to upgrade Town Hall
BBMP plans to renovate the Town Hall at a cost of Rs. 5.6 crore.
Bangalore: In an irony of sorts the cash-starved BBMP, which had planned to pledge the Town Hall to raise Rs 200 crore, will now be renovating the same at a cost of Rs. 5.6 crore.
BBMP standing committee Chairman on ward level works A. H. Basavaraj told reporters on Tuesday that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared to give a face-lift to the interiors of the neo-classical building.
The approval of sub-committee on development of Town Hall has been sought, he added.
The DPR has been prepared with the government-owned Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Ltd and the initiative aims to improve seating, sound system, dais, electricity, toilets, green room and other requirements, he said.
The Town Hall hosts numerous cultural programmes organised by government and private institutions and the initiative had been pending for the last three years.
Tenders for the same will be floated with pending approval from the BBMP council and the government by exercising the powers vested with the committee.
Later, the same will be sent to the government for ratification, he added.
The BBMP will be constructing a super specialty hospital at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore at Cauverypura ward under Govindarajnagar assembly constituency.
The committee has given approval for the same. This will benefit residents of Kamakshipalya, Prashantnagar, Moodalapalya, Cauverypura and surrounding areas.
Palike adalat: On the lines of BWSSB and Bescom adalats, the BBMP too would hold adalats once in two months at all the ward levels.
This would ease the burden of residents who often have to run from pillar to post to sort out their grievances.
The adalat will be attended by officers from Traffic and law and order police, Bescom, BWSSB and BBMP officials in the presence of ward corporator concerned
The action taken report of the adalat must be placed before the commissioner for further action, Basavaraj suggested.
