Hyderabad: India and Pakistan should have more constructive engagements to resolve the conflict between the two nations.

If India came forward with more tangible cooperation with Pakistan in different fields, the anti-Indian attitude would further reduce and thereby set the stage for credible peace processes, stated Dr Stephen P. Cohen, a prominent expert on Pakistan, India, and South Asian security, who was in the city for a talk.

Dr Cohen on Tuesday interacted with the students of the Hyderabad Central University and spoke on Middle East and South Asian Peace processes: Comparisons and Lessons.

The renowned professor, who has completed 50 years of South Asia-centric scholarship, said that regular engagements between India and Pakistan could also lead to Pakistan depending less on China, which in turn would be a strategic advantage for India.

Dr Cohen fielded a variety of questions from students on Middle Eastern peace processes, Indo-Pak conflict, increasing role of India’s soft powers etc.

Dr Cohen is a well-known scholar on South Asian politics from Brookings Institutions, Washington DC.

He is a senior fellow in foreign policy studies at the Brookings Institution and a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

He has authored and co-authored about 12 books and has been named as one of 500 most influential people of the United States of America in foreign affairs.
