No remand yet for Yasin Bhatkal
Yasin since his arrest in the last week of August is in the custody of NIA and Delhi police.
Bangalore: Over three months after the arrest of key Indian Mujahideen operative and prime terror accused Yasin Bhatkal, city police are yet to get his remand despite repeated attempts.
Yasin since his arrest in the last week of August from Raxaul in Bihar has been in the custody of the National Investigation Agency and the Delhi police.
He was last week remanded to police custody for 10 days along with his close aide Asadullah Akhtar alias Haddi in the September 2010 Jama Masjid terror attack case, which is being investigated by the special cell of Delhi police.
The Central Crime Branch, city police are first in the queue of counterparts from other states who are awaiting Yasin’s remand for interrogation and investigation in terror cases in which the IM leader is reportedly involved.
In Bangalore, Yasin is wanted in the April 2010 Chinnaswamy stadium blast for which he has been already been chargesheeted.
City police had even obtained a body warrant in the end of November but failed to bring him in. “Unless we get him here we may not get the right picture of the terror network,” said a police officer.
Yasin and Akhtar’s lawyer M. S. Khan had opposed their police custody, arguing that, name of national security police cannot ask for the remand as the two had nothing left to disclose to investigators in the Delhi terror cases.
