PSPB, WB, NB in finals in men's and women's TT championship

Patna: Star studded Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) stormed into the finals in both men's and women's section of the 75th Senior National and Inter State Table Tennis Championship here today.

PSPB will clash with West Bengal and North Bengal in the men and women's sections respectively in the team championship finals tomorrow.

PSPB thrashed Gujarat and Airport Authority of India (AAI) in straight sets 3-0 in both men and women's section in the semi-finals.

West Bengal beat Haryana 4-1 in the men's section and lost 0-3 to North Bengal in the women's section in the semis.

National champion Soumojit Ghosh (PSPB) started the title hunt by trouncing Jignesh Jaishwal 11-3, 11-8 and 11-6 to take 1-0 lead.

Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Sarath Kamal made it 2-0 by defeating Devesh Karia 10-12, 11-6, 11-3 and 11-7 while Arvind Desai took the tally to 3-0 after beating Hardik Bhatt 11-4, 11,5 and 11-8 in the men's semi-finals.

In the women's semifinal, PSPB's K Shamini trounced A Mukherjee 13-11, 11-5 and 11-3, while her teammate Madhulika defeated Ritwika 12-10, 11-5 and 11-7 even as Neha Agarwal overcame N Bhanu in four sets 11-2, 7-11, 11-9 and 12-10.

West Bengal outplayed Haryana 3-0 in the men's semi-final to move into the finals. Teenage sensation Sourav Saha thrashed Sourav Chakroborty 11-4, 11-5 and 11-8. His teammate Soumojit Roy beat Jubin Kumar 10-12, 11-3, 11-5 and 11-7. while Sougata Sarkar defeated Sarhaak Gandhi by 11-7, 11-7, 5-11 and 11-6.

In the second women's semifinals, Nandita Saha gave the lead to North Bengal by defeating Sutirtha Mukherjee (WB) in four sets 11-5,11-7, 7-11,6-11 and 11-9, while Sagarika Mukherjee made it 2-0 by beating Mauma Das 13-11, 11-7 and 12-10.

Sukanya Bose sealed the match in favour of North Bengal by defeating veteran Poulomi Ghatak in a four-set cliffhanger 11-9, 12-10, 8-11 and 11-5.

Earlier, North Bengal upset title holders Delhi 3-1, while West Bengal overpowered Tamil Nadu 3-0.

AAI defeated Maharashtra (A) 3-1 and PSPB blanked Maharashtra (B) 3-0 in women's quarterfinal matches.
