Mathias bags five, K’taka in semis
Bangalore: Karnataka lads entered the semifinals of the Col C.K. Nayudu Trophy U-25 tournament by virtue of their first innings lead over Himachal Pradesh with the four-day encounter ending in a draw on Wednesday.
Having piled up 602 for nine declared, Karnataka, who had reduced HP to 265 for five packed off the remaining batsmen as the hosts were bowled out for 317, an addition of 52 with David Mathias returning a five-wicket haul while Aditya B Sagar picked up four wickets.
In their second essay, Mayank Agarwal (118) helped himself to a century as Karnataka rattled up 239 for four in 57 overs.

MEG Boys sail past Belgaum
In a completely one-sided match MEG Boys swamped Belgaum District HA 11-0 in the KSHA ‘A’ Division Hockey League Championship on Wednesday. MEG’s Ajay, Ajith, Ravindra and Shashi struck twice each while Vishal, Pullaiah and Nadeem, scored once to fashion their runaway victory.

Volleyball tourney from Jan. 30
The Janma Bhoomi Vedike a sports and cultural association of Srinivasapura Taluk, Kolar district, under the banner of Karnataka Volleyball Association, will conduct a state-level invitation men’s volleyball tournament at the High school grounds from January 30. All KVA affiliated clubs are eligible to participate in this tournament.
