Test status for Vizag stadium

Hyderabad: A panel appointed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Thursday said it would submit a report recommending Test status for the ACA-VDCA Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

The committee, comprising IPL Chairman Ranjit Biswal, also the convenor of the BCCI Inspection Committee, M.V. Sridhar, director of cricket operations, G.R.Viswanath, national selection committee chairman, and James Rego, director, BCCI.tv.

Expressing their satisfaction with the facitlities and amenities at the stadium, Biswal said they would recomment Test status to the venue.

“All the requirements are on par for the recommendation for Test Status for this venue, and our report will be submitted to BCCI. Also, Vizag is one of the centres for the IPL and will be considered for IPL match-allocation after the necessary homework is done,” Biswal said.

Adding to that, Sridhar said: “The ACA has already staged One-Day International matches here and while doing so, met all the required parameters.”

Barca camp in city for kids

Hyderabad: Promising football players in Hyderabad will get a chance to learn the game the Barcelona way, with the Spanish club set to hold a camp in Hyderabad from January 11 to 15.

The five-day training camp will be held at the Sreenidhi International School at Aziznagar in Hyderabad under the supervision of David Jaray, coordinator of the FCBEscola, Delhi NCR.

Delhi under-19 in a strong position

Hyderabad: Hyderabad, after making a strong start to their Cooch Behar Trophy under-19 cricket kncokout match against hosts Delhi, squandered the initiative by letting Delhi take the lead on the third day of the match on Thursday.

Hyderabad, who made 415, were unable to stanch the flow of runs as Delhi, courtesy centuries by A.A. Arora and H.T. singh, posted 451 for the loss of eight wickets by the close of play.
Arora scored 131 while Singh is batting on 136.

VHR T20 meet in city from Jan. 16

Hyderabad: The Cricket Federation of Hyderabad, under the aegis of the Cricket Federation of India, will organise the sixth all-India VHR under-19 Twenty20 day/night league cricket championship in Hyderabad from January 16 to 19. The tournament will witness 16 teams — 12 from India and four overseas sides — vie with each other for the title.

Matches will be played at the Lal Bahadur Stadium, Amberpet Water Works Ground and Vijay Anand Ground at Attapur.
