Kochi: In view of the increase in the number of complaints on the exploitation of women at workplaces, the State Women’s Commission would  carry out inspections at private firms, said Women’s Commission member Lissy Jose.

Addressing the media after an adalat here on Friday, she said the commission had been getting complaints of harassment and sexual exploitation in private organisations.

“To check the exploitation of women employees, anti-harassment cells have been formed in all Government departments. We’ll explore the possibility of constituting similar cells in all private firms,” she said.

The Women’s Commission member added that instances of fraudsters exploiting  women by promising to marry them were on the rise and awareness programmes would be conducted to sensitize young women.

As many as 60 complaints were brought before the  panel of which 36 were settled. Nine cases were put off to the next adalat and two complaints were referred. to the police.
