Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP state leadership will decide the candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections only after the two public rallies in the state to be attended by Gujarat chief minister and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on February 9.

The first rally will be held at Shanghumugham beach here at 4 p.m. and the second at Kochi Marine Drive at 7 p.m. coinciding with the centenary celebrations of Kerala Pulayar Maha Sabha’s lake agitation.

BJP national president Rajnath Singh will   attend  both the  rallies. According to BJP state president V. Muraleedharan, Singh will address only the rally at Shanghumugham beach.

The  programme will be finalised only at the national executive meeting in New Delhi on January 17.  The national council of the BJP will meet in the following two days which will be attended by Modi. Muraleedharan will hold discussions  with him on the rallies then.

Referring to the centenary celebrations of the Kerala Pulayar Maha Sabha’s lake agitation,  Muraleedharan told DC that in 1914, the KPMS was denied sanction to protest against the then Cochin rulers. But they held their protest in the sea atop rafts which came to be known  as the lake agitation.
