All buses to show safety video clip

Chennai: Transport officials are on their toes with the Pongal crowd moving in and out of the city. Private buses have been kept in the radar to check on instances of fleecing and overloading.
Special teams have been constituted for checks. In a special step, all private bus crews have been instructed to show video clips on safety in case of emergency to passengers before commencing the journey.
Transport commissioner Prabhakara Rao says, “During last night’s checks on private buses, 29 cases came to light for carrying unauthorised belongings. Two cases of fleecing were also recorded. We have asked the bus owners to provide answers.”
Sale of tickets in government buses has been good at the Koyambedu bus stand though online booking has become tedious as passengers complain of the website being slow and at times unresponsive.
Vetri Pandian, a marketing professional in the city, said, “I have been trying to get a ticket to go to Tirunelveli for Pongal but could not get one as the website kept hanging. Giving up, I took a ticket from a private travels but that is double of what the government buses charge.”
