Assumption college clinches thriller

Kochi: Assumption College Changanachery overcame V.K. Krishna Menon College, Kannur 65-63 in a thrilling extra-time semifinal clash of the 5th JCI all India invitational basketball tournament at Athirampuzha.

Minnu Mariam Baby who top scored with 20 points for Assumption also scored the crucial basket in the dying seconds. The two teams were tied at 25 points and later at 50 at half time and the  end of regulation period respectively. The men’s category produced a close match between Vijaya Bank Bangalore and SB College Changanacherry. It was the bankmen who had the last laugh as they edged the game 79-72 to win the the first quarterfinal. In another last-eight encounter, Thiruvananthapuram-based team KSEB defeated Mar Ivanios College 54-38.
