Chennai: Tennis legend Ramanathan Krishnan has been chosen for the sixth Sundaram Finance ‘Spirit of Mylapore’ Award. He received it from TT Srinivasaraghavan, MD, Sundaram Finance Ltd., as part of the final day events of the 12th Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival at the main stage in front of the 16pillar Mandapa opposite the Kapali Temple on Sunday.

“No Indian tennis player has scaled greater heights in singles play than this unassuming, soft-spoken giant from Mylapore. A true ambassador of the sport, who understood the meaning of ‘Love All’, Ramanathan Krishnan is known for being a gentleman on and off the court”, said Srinivasaraghan while presenting the award to Krishnan as one “who embodies the true spirit of Mylapore”.

He described Krishnan as a role model for any aspiring youngster and sportsman as “he believes that if we serve with commitment and dignity in the game of life, we will be served back with respect and recognition”.

Accepting the award with charming grace, Krishnan recalled that he had received great help from the TVS Group even during his playing days. “I truly congratulate Sundaram Finance for keeping up the Mylapore heritage and contributing to our traditions and culture in no small way by organising the Mylapore Festival year on year.”
