It started off as an enchanting rivalry between two stalwarts of Tamil cinema, giving people in Tamil Nadu another reason to celebrate this festive season. But with both ‘Jilla’ and ‘Veeram’ going neck and neck, die-hard fans are pitting against each other now.

Both the films have banked on action and sentiment with masala elements strewn across the screen-play to woo audience.  They have managed to serve a delightful visual treat and rouse the rustic ambience.

The four day long holiday in Tamil Nadu meant Jackpot for the makers as fans thronged theatres splurging money on movies as part of their ‘holiday plans’.

‘Jilla’ was a tad bit ahead of ‘Veeram’ on the opening day. But what is the status now?

Here’s all you need to know.

Jilla:

It has been six days since the film released and the response still seems to be overwhelming. The film’s initial run time 182 minutes (3hrs) was considered to be a downside for the film and was subsequently trimmed by 10 mins from day 2.

‘Jilla’ is said to be ruling the UK Box Office and has collected a whopping 1.54 Cr, which is higher than his earlier hit ‘Thuppaki’. It has also created a record of sorts by making it to the third position in the list of all-time biggest openers in UK, next only to Super Star Rajinikanth's ‘Endhiran’ and ‘Sivaji’.

Veeram:

Word-of-the mouth publicity appears to be doing miracles for ‘Veeram’ as the film continues its good run at the box office. Fans of the actor continue to brag about their Thala’s Train Stunt and immaculate performance.

Meanwhile, the film is making waves overseas by becoming the only Tamil film to feature in the Top 20 list at the Australian Box Office this week.  The film was released with only seven copies but has made 4.6 Cr already. It is said Ajith enjoys a good fan following there and the numbers seem to say nothing different.
