Exam evaluations to go fully online
Examiners can access the answer sheets online and evaluate the papers with full security.
Thrissur: After the successful trial run in PhD entrance examination, the Kerala University of Health Science (KUHS) is all set to start online evaluation of the answer sheets of the students of all disciplines.
The answer sheets can be digitised and posted on a specially set up server for valuation.
The examiners can access the answer sheets online and evaluate the papers with full security.
“The varsity IT wing will be trained to scan the answer sheets and upload them on screen by using a new software, which was developed by the research desk,” says Dr. K. Praveenlal Kuttichira, Dean, KUHS. Instead of high-end and costly scanners, two webcams are used to scan the answer sheets.
The major advantage is that the answer sheet can be rolled up and down easily.
The evaluators can access the answer sheets through a unique web link by using secret user name and password. Not even university officials can access this password.
“This is probably for the first time in the state that a university is introducing an online evaluation system for examinations. The major drawbacks evolved during manual evaluation like wrong tabulation can be avoided by this method. This will improve the quality, speed and transparency in the evaluation process. Also, results can be published without any delay and manpower can be reduced,” said Dr. Praveenlal.
