Hyderabad: Dr Prathap C. Reddy’s next goal is spreading awareness regarding preventive healthcare.

On Wednesday, the founder chairman of Apollo Hospitals, attended the release of his biography — titled Healer and the Transformation of India — by Pranay Gupte.

Dr Reddy felt there was a great need to spread awareness on preventive healthcare as people often tend to neglect their health.

At the book launch, Dr Reddy also touched upon the topic of brain drain.

“We are now seeing a reverse brain drain in our country. We have patients from 150 countries. They prefer to come to India for treatment as we offer very reasonable rates. This shows that we can become global leaders in healthcare if we train our manpower properly,” he said.

The research wing of Apollo Hospitals is now concentrating on antibodies to prevent cancer, preventive medicines for heart attacks and also small dialysis machines to make life easier for kidney patients.

Dr Prathap Reddy also recalled the contribution of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, who had encouraged healthcare infrastructure in India.

Eminent doctors including Dr Nageshwar Reddy of Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Dr G.N. Rao of LV Prasad Eye Institute, Dr Evita Fernandez of Fernandez Hospital, Dr Mohana Vamsy of Omega Hospitals and Dr Gopichand of Star Hospitals were present during the function.
