Banks flout security rules
Most banks ignore guidelines issued by police.
Hyderabad: Over 70 per cent of banks in the Cyberabad Commissionerate limits have completely ignored new rules laid down by police to fight an increasing number of burglaries.
A month ago, Cyberabad police had issued orders to various banks instructing them to enhance security facilities within the January 15 deadline.
But even after two days past the deadline, most of the banks in the area, were found to have done close to nothing to improve their security.
As per the orders from the Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand, all banks must be guarded 24x7 by two well-trained security guards with licenced weapons.
The banks, and the ATMs, must also have high-quality close circuit TV equipped with night vision capabilities with at least three months of video stored.
The banks’ buildings were also ordered to have high-end sensors and alarm systems to detect any attempt of physical intrusion such as hammering, drilling using of gas cutters. Cyberabad police had even offered to train the banks’ security guards.
But most of the establishments have failed to recruit enough guards. “The Commissioner of Police was also ready to issue arms licences for the security guards. But very few people have approached us so far,” said a senior police official from Cyberabad.
