This British Indian film actress has taken fame and change in her stride. Preeti Desai’s perseverance is what has taken her forward. From making history, as the first woman of Indian origin to win the Miss Great Britain title in (2007) and taking the bold step to leave her country of origin to a new land, to pursue a career in Mumbai in 2008, Preeti?is as persistent as she is dogged about overcoming the ups and downs in her career. Her relationship with Abhay?Deol might make headlines, but she has taken the speculation and gossip with maturity. The pretty lass who made her acting debut with Shor in the City in 2011 wants to get ahead and make the right choices.

Not love at first sight

So how did their romance blossom? “I met Abhay at the success party of 'Dev-D' in 2010. We didn’t strike an instant chemistry, nor was it love at first sight. This undoubtedly happens only in films! We started seeing each other, and one day realised that we liked each other, so our friendship went ahead.”

Having faced stressful moments about being friends with an actor, she says, “We were still getting to know each other then. But the media flashed that we were already together. I was like: Oh! My God what’s happening? That was a little disturbing. As a matter of fact, even today, we are still discovering new things about each other. Every single day, we learn more.”

Living-in with Abhay

“The media had reported earlier that we were in a live in relationship. Some reports also mentioned we were engaged and getting married and… (laughing) what next? Bachchas? If we were living together, why on earth would we spend on separate rentals? No, Abhay and I aren’t living together. For One by Two, we didn’t  have much time to go back home; and we wanted to  spend more time with each other, so we lived together during shooting.

Love is never easy

“Having travelled a lot, both of us have similar thought processes. We are attracted to each other and gel well. Even a modern girl has to work hard to make a relationship work. Compatibility and understanding are important. Equally important is the ability to carry forward the relationship. I think both the man and woman need to give each other equal space, both need to give in to each other, by sharing and caring, and together, take the relationship forward. An open attitude between both the man and woman plays a vital role. Both should have the inclination of taking a relationship to another level. My family and Abhay’s family know about our relationship and they are comfortable with it,” she explains.
