CPM withdraws LPG strike too

Kannur: The CPM on Saturday called off the state-wide hunger strike protesting against the price hike of LPG gas. CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters  that the strike was  called off as the union government had decided to increase the number of LPG cylinders from nine to 12. Vijayan also claimed that the increasing public support for the agitation across the nation forced the ministry to increase the number of cylinders.

Even petroleum minister Veerappa Moily, who was adamant on not increasing the number of cylinders, was forced to bow to the public pressure, he added. “Issues like price hike of essentials and move to make Aadhaar compulsory for availing of subsidy benefits  are yet to be addressed,”  he added.  

Referring to  the death of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Union minister Shashi Tharoor, he said that her death has come after various issues had cropped up against Tharoor. There were many doubts about the death, he said.
