Chennai: Government medical colleges across the state will get a new website soon. Websites of all 19 colleges will have details of various departments, courses and faculty members, among others.

A senior official from the directorate of medical education said though each college has its own website, from now on, a common protocol will be followed so that one can easily access and get proper information.

Health minister, Dr C. Vijayabaskar, will soon launch the website and also a hospital information system for patients. According to officials, the health information system for patients will contain all details and records of patients visiting government hospitals.

“We will give PIN (patient identification number) and records of patients from echocardiogram to MRI will be registered in the computer. So, even if a patient visits another government hospital in some other district, through this PIN, his/her records can easily be taken,” said the officials.

Apart from digitalising patients’ records, administration of government hospitals will also soon go digital.  Details of staff will be registered.
