Connemara to help civic body

Chennai: The Chennai corporation, which recently started fr­ee coaching classes for stu­dents preparing for co­mpetitive exams like TN­PSC, UPSC, MBA, MCA, CSSE-I services and other technical posts, has so­u­ght the Connemara lib­ra­ry’s co-operation in stocking some of its own books popular with civil service exam aspirants.

“We have asked for a list of books which are most so­ught after by the civil se­r­vice aspirants at Con­ne­mara library. The lib­ra­ry at Ripon Buildings is al­r­eady equipped with some civil service textbooks and these new sets of bo­oks which are expected to arrive by end of January will be supplied at all the three libraries, including the two coming up at co­a­ching centres,” said a senior official at the corporation.

The coaching sessions are conducted at the corp­oration girls’ schools at Pe­rambur and Saidapet and these two centres wo­uld also be getting libr­aries for reference purposes, the official at the corporation said. These libr­aries would come up in a month’s time. However, he said that the books were only for reference purposes at the moment.

Other sources say that around '5 lakh has been allocated for purchasing books to stock up the lib­rary at Ripon buildings. Sources add that the tenders for procuring the books would be called for soon and it would take at least two months for all the books to arrive.

“The corporation can also consider getting suggestions on other famous literature books and novels from the Connemara which will attract even mo­re readers,” said S. Par­thiban, a book lover.
