Police goof-up puts family in a spot
The girl who went missing in mid-2013, was later found in Bangalore along with her friend.
Hyderabad: A lookout notice that was not revoked put the family of a 'missing' girl in trouble six months after she was traced.
Immigration officials at RGIA detained the girl, a resident of Kukatpally, when she was returning with her family on Tuesday (January 21) from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, and handed her over to the Crime Investigation Department.
Kukatpally Housing Board police said the girl actually went missing in mid-2013, and was found in Bangalore along with her friend. As the girl was a minor, the cops had changed the missing case into that of kidnap and rape, and arrested the boy.
Kukatpally inspector A. Gangaram said, “The accused took the girl when she was a minor. We booked a case of rape and kidnap. As it was an important case, a lookout notice was issued and airports were alerted. The girl was traced in mid-2013. But the notice continued to be active. The girl’s parents took her to Jeddah a few months ago, and while they were returning, immigration officials detained her.”
Crime Investigation Department additional director-general T. Krishna Prasad said, “The girl arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi Interna-tional Airport from Jeddah by an Air India flight, and was detained by the immigration officers there. They informed us, and we told the KPHB police that she was no longer missing but was restored to her family.”
