Anantapur: Rajya Sabha elections took an interesting twist following the sudden entry of the dissident leader J.C. Diwakar Reddy, who had differences with APCC president Botsa Satyanarayana, and revenue minister N. Raghuveera Reddy.
He was planning to enter the fray with the support of the Congress MLAs. Though, no MLA from Rayalaseema signed the proposing letter, in favour of the senior leader, sources said his dissidence group had started steps against him from Rayalaseema region.
But Diwakar Reddy’s sudden entry into the fray raised many an eye brow in the region. He had received notice from the APCC disciplinary committee against his allegations on party president Sonia Gandhi and demanded her to quit from the post for Congress losing in four states.
Further, Diwakar Reddy is sore with the high command for its decision to bifurcate the state and failed with the proposal of Rayala-Telangana seeking merger of Anantapur and Kurnool.
However, the curious twist to his rebellion is the support extended to Diwakar Reddy by MLAs of the erstwhile Praja Rajyam..
Anantapur DCC president and Guntakal legislator K. Madhusudhan Guptha observed that Diwakar Reddy is likely to express to the high command about the negative impacts of the state division. “I think this is one way to express his protest to the high Command.”
