Rema plea for a CBI probe is just, says VS Achuthanandan
Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan on Friday stunned the CPM leadership which was basking.
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan on Friday stunned the CPM leadership which was basking in the glory of ‘self-exoneration’ in TPC murder case, by openly backing TPC’s widow K.K. Rema’s demand for a CBI probe.
At a press conference here, Achuthanandan said he believed that everyone would respect the opinion of the ‘poor’ widow and authorities concerned would consider her plea. Through the CBI probe she wanted real culprits and conspirators to be brought to justice, he added.
The veteran leader said he would examine the court’s observations and judgment pertaining to the accused in the T.P. Chandrashekharan murder case.
Party general secretary Prakash Karat had stated that those involved in the ghastly murder would have no place in the party. “I second his opinion,’’ Achuthanandan said adding that such elements should not be allowed to continue in the party.
Achuthanandan’s stand put the CPM state leadership on the defensive as they refused to react to his observations. Modi supporters opportunists: He came down heavily on the Kannur district leadership’s decision to induct the activists of Namo Vichar Manch, the breakaway faction of the BJP, into the CPM fold.
They all are Narendra Modi’s supporters. It goes without saying that who will benefit from an alliance with supporters of a fascist like Modi. People should think whether it was good to associate with people who all along carried Modi’s baggage and were now saying that they didn’t do so.
One cannot trust the opportunist activists of Namo Vichar Manch,’’Achuthanandan said. He recalled that the understanding with PDP during last parliamentary elections had reduced the LDF’s tally to just four seats.
The veteran leader, however, declined to react to CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan's comment that Achuthanandan need not interfere in the affairs of the party in Kannur district.
