Hyderabad: The MMTS service, which ferries more than 70,000 passengers towards Hitec City, Gachibowli and other areas, is constantly delayed despite some improvement recently.

The problem is intense in suburban areas like Chandanagar, Bharathnagar, James Street, Yakutpura and Malakpet that are frequented by software professionals.

During peak hours on certain days, the MMTS trains are delayed by an hour, which stretches the travel time to up to two hours, say passengers. This, however, is an improvement from the earlier waiting period of over 90 minutes, say officials and commuters.

GPS passenger information is now shown on display screens inside the coaches.

A total of 121 services carry 1.5 lakh passengers on two lines — Hyderabad-Secunderabad-Lingampally and Secunderabad-Falaknuma. But none of the services arrive on
time.

“Earlier, the time taken to reach Falaknuma from Chandanagar, including the wait period, used to be nearly two-and-a-half hours on certain days. There is an improvement since January, and trains reach in an hour on an average,” said Naitika Soni, a regular commuter.

The SCR is trying to improve timings by giving MMTS trains priority in passage. According to officials, punctuality has increased by 50 per cent. “Though delays exist, the problem has declined immensely. In fact, senior officials are personally monitoring key trains during the morning and evening peak hours,” said a senior official.
