AC prices to surge by 15%

Chennai: With summer just beginning to set in, prices of air-conditioners are set to go up by 12-15% this year.
Buckling under high import duties and falling rupee, AC makers are passing the input cost rise to consumers to sustain profits.
“What was 5-star AC in 2010 is now a 2-star as per the revised norm. It is a tough task for makers to keep up with changing norms,” he Gulu Mirchandani, CMD of Mirc Electronics Ltd said.
