Bande killing rocks Houses, govt promises status report

Bangalore: The government on Monday agreed to come out with a status report on the investigation into the recent death of  sub-inspector Mallikarjun Bande  in an encounter with rowdy Munna in Gulbarga.

It made the announcement at a meeting with BJP members in the Speaker's chamber, after the opposition stalled the proceedings of the House for over an hour.

When the session began on Monday,  BJP members continued their protest in the well of the legislative assembly, demanding a CBI investigation into the death of  the inspector and transfer of the IGP concerned to allow fair investigation of the case.

But Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused the BJP of trying to politicise Bande's death and  recalled that when the  Congress had  demanded a CBI inquiry into the firing on farmers in Haveri when it was in power in the state, it had shown little  faith in the investigating agency.

Later when law and parliamentary affairs minister,  T B Jayachandra tried to reply to the issues raised by the BJP members, they  did not allow him to speak, plunging the  House into pandemonium.
Speaker  Kagodu Thimmappa  adjourned the house for half an hour and at a meeting in his chamber tried to persuade the BJP to withdraw its agitation. 

But it was only after the state government promised to table the status report of the investigation into the incident in the House did the opposition  agree to call off  their stir.
