Rajagopal to try luck yet again in Kerala capital
When there is still uncertainty about Congress and CPI candidates in Thiruvananthapuram.
Thiruvananthapuram: When there is still uncertainty about Congress and CPI candidates in Thiruvananthapuram Parliament constituency, BJP's senior leader O. Rajagopal has announced his willingness to be in the fray if the party recommends him.
Though Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will hold one of his public rallies here on February 9, BJP state chief V. Muraleedharan told DC that it will not be the launch pad for Rajagopal's election campaign.
Rajagopal is getting ready to contest from here for the third time after his debacle in 1999 and 2004. He maintained that the current political scenario in the state is favourable to the BJP.
“My supporters have been imploring me to contest. If the party too agrees, I will contest from here,” he said.
Coinciding with Modi’s rally, Muraleedharan convened a meeting of party representatives here on Monday to finalise the arrangements. “We are yet to finalise on the candidates’ list for the Lok Sabha elections.
But Rajagopal has expressed his interest to be in the fray which will be finalised only after Modi’s rally as he is coming to Kerala to take part in two rallies as part of his nationwide tour. May be once the list of candidates is finalised, Modi might come again,” Muraleedharan told DC.
