Stalin would die soon, so said Alagiri
Karunandhi alleges son Alagiri of nurturing unreasonable hatred against party treasurer Stalin.
Chennai/Madurai: The inter-party rivalry between M.K .Stalin and M.K. Alagiri, the two prominent sons of DMK president M. Karunanidhi, reached a boiling point on Tuesday with Karunandhi telling mediapersons that Alagiri had told him that Stalin would die in the next three or four months.
Pointing out that Alagiri had always nurtured a long term, unreasonable hatred against party treasurer Stalin, Kalaignar said the animosity reached a high point on January 24 when he barged into his house early in the morning and awakened him from sleep to complain about Stalin.
“He yelled out that Stalin would die in the next three or four months. No father can bear to hear such words about his son. I put up with it only as the leader of a political party,” Karunanidhi said.
However, M.K. Alagiri denied the accusation made by his father and called it absurd and baseless. He told reporters in Madurai that he had never imagined even in his dreams that his father would resort to such a serious accusation against him. “I will take it as my birthday gift from him,” Alagiri said on Tuesday.
He added that he wished to die before his father and wanted Kalaignar to weep over his dead body. “Let him see my body and weep over it,” he said in a choking voice.
Meanwhile, the dramatic turn of events triggered violence across Chennai and other parts of the state where effigies of Alagiri was burnt by DMK supporters. However, no arrests were made.

Absurd, baseless, says Alagiri
Madurai: Denying the accusation of his father and DMK chief M.K.Karunanidhi that he prophesised the death of his younger brother and party’s heir apparent Stalin within four months, a visibly shaken Alagiri called it absurd and baseless.
“I had never ever imagined even in my dreams that my father would resort to such serious accusations against me. I will take them as my birthday gift from him,” he said at a hurriedly convened press briefing in his Sathyasai Nagar residence in Madurai on Tuesday.
An emotionally upset Alagiri said he wished to die before his father. “Let him see my body and weep over it,” he said in a choking voice before withdrawing into his house.
Earlier, he reiterated his claims that he never went to his father's house to pick up any fight or argument. “I wanted to know why my supporters alone should be singled out for any disciplinary action while the others (those in Stalin camp) go scot-free. I wanted to discuss with the leader the various internecine activities some have been indulging in the party as these issues have not been taken to his knowledge at all. Even our fax messages failed to reach his hands,” Alagiri claimed.
In the morning, he visited Virudhunagar district deputy secretary Bose in his house at Kariapatti where his supporters gave him a rousing reception. He was closeted with him for over an hour. When he was asked to react to the instructions given to the party functionaries by the leadership against participating in his birthday bash on January 30, Alagiri said, “They are threatening.
But we will not be cowed down by their threat.”
