HC reprieve for actor Anjali in defamation case
Actor informs Madras HC that her aunt and a film director cheated her of over Rs 57 lakh.
Chennai: Actor Anjali has informed the Madras High Court that her aunt Bharathi Devi, and film director Kalanjiyam cheated her of over Rs 57 lakh.
In a counter affidavit, she prayed that the HC restrain the Saidapet court, seeking that it quash the defamation case filed against her by Kalanjiyam.
The heroine of the blockbuster, Angaditheru, stated that Kalanjiyam became friendly with her aunt and started entering into her personal affairs.
He had threatened her to act in a film he had produced without any payment.
She was part of the film’s shooting, which commenced in the first week of March 2013, while they had withdrawn more than Rs 57 lakh from her bank account without her knowledge. They threatened her and she stayed with her mother in East Godavari District.
She prayed that the court quash the defamation case filed by Kalanjiyam in the XVII Magistrate court in Saidapet.
When the petition came up for hearing on Thursday, the respondents did not appear before the Madras HC. Justice C.T. Selvam passed an interim order, restraining the court from trying the case.
