High Court dismisses PIL against Rajkumar statue
Mayor present during unveiling.
Bangalore: Even as the 14.5 ft tall bronze statue of late thespian Dr Rajkumar was unveiled at South End Circle, in the city, the High Court on Thursday dismissed a PIL alleging that the statue was is in violation of a Supreme Court ruling.
The division bench, headed by Chief Justice D.H. Waghela, dismissed the PIL, filed by one Ashok Kumar, seeking direction to the state government and BBMP not to allow the erection of the statue, as it was in violation of SC ruling on statues in public place.
The petitioner had relied upon an apex court order in 2013, directing all states not to grant permission for erecting statues or construction of any structure at public places or on highways, which would obstruct traffic.
Based on the SC order, the petitioner alleged that the Rajkumar statue was in the vicinity of a public park and should not be allowed to come up. However, the court dismissed his plea as the statue was unveiled in the presence of BBMP Mayor Katte Satyanarayana, and others.
Pascal case
In a relief to the mother of Pascal Mazurier, a French consulate employee accused of raping his daughter, the high court has granted her permission to visit her grandchildren. The court directed Pascal’s wife Suja Jones Mazurier to keep her children present at Bangalore Mediation Centre on Friday at 5.30 pm, before the Center’s Director or Deputy Director.
The court has also directed both Pascal and Suja Jones Mazurier to be present along with their advocates. Pascal had alleged in the petition that his wife had disobeyed the earlier order of the Family Court, which had allowed his mother visitation at the Mediation Centre in the presence of a mediator.
