Aditya Chopra never praised me: Ranveer Singh
The actor feels he was lucky to work with the producer for the third time.
Mumbai: Actor Ranveer Singh, who got his break in the Bollywood from Aditya Chopra, says that shy producer has never praised his work and ratherscolded him.
The actor made his acting debut with YRF's 'Band Baaja Baaraat' which was a massive hit and followed by ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl', and now he will be seen in 'Gunday', another film from the same Production house.
“I feel lucky and fortunate to be working for Aditya. He is a great guy but he has never said good things to me. He just scolds me and says good job and not more than that," the actor said in an interview here. “The cast and crew of the film Gunday were all youngsters so the atmosphere was energetic," he added.
The movie is produced by Aditya Chopra and it also stars Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra and is slated to release on February 14.
Talking about his upcoming movie the actor says, 'Gunday' is set in Kolkata of the '70s and it deals with two friends Bikram and Bala asthey go from being small-time coal thieves to the black-marketing mafia. Ranveer's character, Bikram, is slightly held-back like an angry young man.
"I don't know if my character is similar or inspired by anyone. Somebody who works closely with YRF said to me that he gets a vibe of young Mr Amitabh Bachchan by looking at me in 'Gunday'. It’s huge compliment," he said.
"Mr Bachchan is more than the reason for me to become an actor. I wanted to become actor because I used to watch lot of Hindi films and was inspired by him. Ranveer also recalled that Bachchan had once sent him a hand-written note praising his work in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Ram Leela'. "He is an icon of the country. For him to write beautiful things about my work and send bouquet of flowers was extraordinary. My mom felt proud while presenting this note to me and I gotemotional," Ranveer said.
The actor is also excited about sharing the screen-space with another veteran actor whom he admires actor Govinda in his upcoming film 'Kill Dil'. "I have a special bond with him. He treats me like his son. I am huge fan of his. I love the way he dances, I used to copy him when I was in school.”
Ranveer does think that 'Kill Dil' will bring Govinda back in limelight on celluloid. “The way he has portrayed his character (a negative role) it will be like never before seen side of Govinda for people," he said. 'Kill Dil' is directed by Shaad Ali and produced by Chopra. It features Govinda, Ranveer Singh, Parineeti Chopra and Ali Zafar in the lead roles, and is scheduled to release in September this year.
