Asaram to remain in jail, says Rajasthan High Court
Rajasthan High Court rejected Asarams bail plea regarding the sexual assault case.
Jodhpur: Rejecting the bail plea of self styled godman Asaram, Rajasthan High Court quashed the arguments of defence counsel Ram Jethmalani who claimed that section 376(2) (rape on a woman when she is under twelve years of age), and others are redundant.
During the argument Jethmalani questioned the allegations of the victim and alleged that she had come on her own to Asaram with her parents.
While countering the arguments, the prosecution lawyer Mahipal Bishnoi was quoted saying, “the charge sheet strengthens the allegations and there has not been any change in the circumstances of the case.”
After hearing the arguments of both sides, Justice Kaur, who had reserved the order on February 3, rejected the bail application of Asaram.
The accused has been in jail since his arrest in August last year on charges of sexually assaulting the teenage girl at his ashram in Jodhpur.
