Three of a family die in murder-suicide attempt

Hyderabad: Three persons from a family who sustained serious burns in a murder-suicide bid on Friday at their house at Baharpet in Bhongir, Nalgonda district died while undergoing treatment here on Sunday.
The dead are Kiran Kumar, 29, a labourer, Keerthi, 22, a degree student from a college in Ghatkesar, and their mother Indiramma, 60.
Police said that Kiran had been noticing his sister Keerthi talking on the phone for long with an unidentified man. He grew suspicious and thought that she was having a love affair. On Friday, he confronted her regarding the calls and the caller. Keerthi, took offence at this and picked up an argument, police said. Following the argument, Kiran poured kerosene on his sister and himself, and set themselves ablaze. Their mother tried to rescue them and the fire spread to her clothes. Their father Laxmaiah, who saw them on fire rushed them to a nearby hospital with the help of locals.
Later, they were shifted to the Gandhi Hospital here. While Kiran died late in the night on Saturday, Keerthi and Indiramma died early on Sunday.
The police had registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder). This has now been changed to 302 (murder) and is being investigated.
The bodies were shifted to Gandhi Hospital mortuary and was later handed over to the family.
